Black Hole Explorer: Genesis

Black holes are often depicted as giant monstrous vacuum cleaners of the universe — they suck everything and not even light can escape. This is true when matter approaches the boundary of a black hole, called the ‘event horizon’, it cannot escape. This is because black holes have singularities: Known laws of physics break down inside them. What are black holes? Do they really exist? How do they form? How are they related to stars? What would happen if you fell into one? How do you see a black hole if they emit no light? Can a black hole also be a wormhole or a time machine? Set in the year 2090, join us on this journey as we explore the concepts behind black holes.

Definition and Formation

This section would be covered in a week and are divided into four modules:

  • Dangerous But Necessary
Let's face it: Black holes are terrifying. A point in space with so much gravity that not even light can escape. This module introduces the basic terminology.
  • A Brief History Of Black Hole - 1
Black holes were once thought to be only a mathematical curiosity. But bit by bit, astronomers tallied up evidence for black holes’ existence. Let us understand this journey.
  • Space Station Work
Get your grey matter at work to design a beautiful and elegant spacesuit for your fellow human beings who are going to venture to the mighty black hole at the distance of a light year.
  • Mission Readiness Test

Shapes and Sizes

This section would be covered in a week and are divided into four modules:

  • A Brief History Of Black Hole - 2
The foundation for what we know about black holes came during the Great War. Join me on this journey as we further strengthen our understanding of gravitational beasts.
  • Structure Of A Black Hole
A black hole is a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong that nothing including the mighty light, can escape from it. Let us know what makes up these gigantic beasts.
  • Space Station Work
Get your creativity and imagination going by designing a stunning and durable spacecraft that will carry you and your fellow humans a light-year away to the powerful black hole.
  • Mission Readiness Test
How well-versed are you in understanding black holes? Test your understanding of gravity, the speed of light, solar mass, and more with this amazing black hole quiz.

Musical Black Holes

This section would be covered in a week and are divided into four modules:

  • Sound Of A Black Hole
If a black hole devours a planet or a star and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound? Here, we'll answer this question in detail and also enjoy some black hole songs.
  • Varieties Of Black Hole
Black holes come in various sizes — from a mass of a few Suns to millions of solar masses. As this vastly different black holes feast on the matter, do they behave similarly? Let us find out.
  • That Thing
In this module, we will demonstrate what a supermassive black hole in the galaxy M87 with a mass 6.5 billion times that of our sun looks like. This module explains black holes in an entirely different way.
  • Space Station Work
Black holes are the most mysterious objects in the universe. Nobody knows exactly what’s going on inside. What do you know about black holes?
